Actually mamaleng I think my exact words were "Should attend school." I didn't have much faith in Sean's attendance record did I?
(I wonder if Sean actually got that paper anyway, as he lived up to his name and wasn't really present on that day.)

I can't really think of any quotes but remember the time mona started singing The Godfather theme out of nowhere and acted like it was the most common thing to do? What a strange lady.

Also, (sorry, these things just come rushing back at me) remember when mona made us pass round a piece of paper each so that everyone else could write what they thought of you? I thought it was really funny when s.ning wrote "should come to school more often" on...Sean's. heehee.

SISPEC trainees, my heart goes out to you. But fuck, do I miss the Tekong bunks, which had showers with decent water pressure instead of being little more than dripping faucets.

Could someone also tell me why the mouse cursor on the class blog always points the other way? Been something like one-and-a-half years and I'm still mystified.

It has indeed been far too quick. 2004, especially. A deceptively slow start, then I blinked and it was suddenly the eve of prelims. Another blink and I was on the 7.30am fastcraft to Pulau Tekong, on the way to enlisting in the Singapore Armed Forces. Then "10...9...8...1 and Happy New Year" all over again. What a sneaky year - came and went like a thief in the night.

Not that 2003 took its time to pass. But yes, it was an amazing two years and the lot of you have been a fantastic bunch. I haven't found a better bunch of people I would rather be with.

Justin, that photo was definitely taken in July. Racial Harmony Day is the 21st of July every year, in commemoration of the race riots of 21st July 1964 - or has everybody forgotten this National Education factlet already?

We also need a 2004 collection of quotes. Quite sure we dropped a few gems last year, but my memory was never good. Someone help?

PS just for fun, let me see if I can list down all the guys' NS vocations:

Justin - Pre-enlistee
Mark - SISPEC trainee
Elgin - SISPEC trainee
Qiyan - SISPEC trainee
Roger - Officer cadet
Zihao - Signaller
Sean - Storeman
Daniel - Supply Assistant, 24th Battalion Singapore Artillery
Me - Field Artillery Target Acquisition, 24th Battalion Singapore Artillery

reading those archives and quotes really brings me on a walk down memory lane... 2 yrs just zoomed past like that...haha. qiyan looks real gay in the foto... miss those daes.. anyways its 11 days before i enlist!! well shuangning, qiyan and gina are missing the pics.so it cld be taken in july when the swim and track coms were on...haha.. love u all! i wana keep all of u for life man... -justin-

eh go have a look at the cover page of the Lifestyle section of the Sunday Times (27 Mar)... Eagle company (my company shared the same corridor as them in BMT) from BMT is on the front page! and Vig from rjc is interviewed haha

ooh our blog! haha. yes ponce is right the girls are slaves to work.. ponce?! stop poncing around my dear :) anyway the pic sure brought back many fond memories... ah, those were the days..... -jie qi

Hooray! People are returning!
At the moment the archives link doesn't work (on my comp anyway). I've figured out a way to manually put up the archives but it'll take forever so check back maybe some time next month.
Justin I distinctly remember you being absent on the day that photo was taken - and I can't remember why! Track maybe? Can others offer an explanation for his disappearance?
Anyway, good to see/read you guys.

P.S. I know it is completely stupid that I have to keep editing my own posts, but it is scary how traffic on this blog has gone from zero to 3-posts-popping-up-as-soon-as-you-have-published-your-own-post. Elgin is certainly responsible for the rant below this post, but the question is, why is he signing off as 'gin tonic'? I trace history. First it was 'nigle'. Then it was 'I will not complain'. I am sorry if I sound unsympathetic. I am truly sorry for all you army dudes, and the SISPEC ones most of all.

dear class,

It has been almost three months since I and the tekong boys stepped onto that wretched island at the east end of Singapore. Unfortunately for me, while the other guys have been shipped off to the mainland after BMT, I am left on this island, grabbing my bald head with my left hand and sucking my right thumb, writhing in general anguish and wondering what dark deeds I have done in my past life to warrant such a cruel fate, together with mark and qiyan.

I am suppose to attend what is termed as the Basic Section Leader Course (BSLC) (a pretty nifty term for a course that teaches trainees how to prance about in the jungle with 6 other men) at the School of Infantry Specialists (SISPEC) (Tekong folklore has it that SISPEC actually stands for a much more sinister term: Suffer in Silence Plus Extra Confinement. Despite the fact that I believe in ideals like Truth Love Beauty and Peace, I will not confront my sergeants regarding the validity of the aforementioned claim, since I sincerely believe that the highest ideal is Self-Preservation).

I was posted to Foxtrot Company in SISPEC, and for those who leaped to the immediate conclusion that Foxtrot Company in SISPEC bears a close resemblance to that in BMT, I hope you brought a parachute, because you have just leaped into the Canyon of Wrong Conclusions. To claim that SISPEC Foxtrot is BMT Foxtrot's identical twin is akin to claiming that Michael Jackson is straight or that Beckham is a Swiss taxidermist.

Why do I say so? There is enough circumstantial evidence to convict OJ Simpson for murder, camel abuse and irresponsible dumping of nuclear waste 10 times over. Here are some:

1) A search for "sispec foxtrot" at Yahoo yields material alarming enough to scare off a tribe of bloodthirsty barbarians. A certain Mr Pantat (mrpantat.blogspot.com) wrote: "SISPEC is a Nightmare!! Any stronger word ? After all the slacking and enjoyment in Hawk, I got a culture shock in SISPEC, Foxtrot Company." At retrospecter.blogspot.com, this person has this to say: "Well, perhaps SISPEC may not be so bad after all, unless I get posted to some screwed up company. So I am praying hard I will not be posted to Foxtrot."

2) I was at Gramaphone the other day, browsing through cds. MAS called me and asked me for my unit and company. I said "SISPEC Foxtrot". Immediately, the guy in front of me turned around and gave me this "you are so screwed" look. Deep inside my brain, I was thinking, "WTFKNNBBBQ".

3) On my first day at SISPEC, the first sergeant I met has this to say to us trainees: "Welcome to SISPEC. Training here is tough, but tahan-able. But for those going to echo or foxtrot, we wish you good health and luck and endurance." I promptly went to check my company posting after that, and there was it, the large capital F besides my name.

These are interesting times, but I do not want to be part of it. Gah.

wow..our blog has been revived...cool...been ages since i blogged..seriously ages..eons..soon it will be just the girls who will be blogging or struggling to keep this alive...cos im leaving in approximately 12 daes to tekong..:( where was i in the pic? that pic is really good at bringing loads of memories back to us doesnt it? really nice pic...

-moo-

hey barbies and hunks. i just link the archive page on it. so it'll be amusing to see how we wrote and wad our lives were again in j1. as innocent (yea right) cute little things who believed everything our teachers said. still i tink econs is our most cursed subject, judging by the teachers we had who successively got worse as the year gets by. kinda stank eh. ah well, back to the old drawing board. see you later alligators~
-yax

And we are back in business, it seems. The last time I tried to view the archives, it seems the gremlins came out to play and blogger simply would not load. But I suppose it is all good now.

This June and it will be two years since we got this little piece of Internet real estate. Now's a fit time indeed to take a little trip back into the past and view the valuable historical record. Not that, of course, I haven't been doing that already - the class egroups tells me plenty. Who still remembers that little fuss about skirt lengths? It's been more than a year since it.

We had fun, didn't we? Here's to continuing to have as much fun as we did in those two years.

wow i decided to come here after about a million years and was completely horrified to find that photo here. dear god, how embarrassing. but good work shuang ning, in your attempt to kick this blog's ass into action! although i'm not sure that anyone actually still visits the blog since the guys and cherylene are running around in the jungle and the girls are becoming slaves to work and i..you know..lounge around. is there any way to fix this thing so that it shows archives as well? this template makes life very difficult when i want to snigger at you guys mentally.

-gen(it is very weird to sign off as gen, i have been indoctrinated into believeing my true name is ponce)

Wow, perhaps this blog is well and truly dead?
In true optimistic spirit, I say it isn't. I shall attempt to revive and BREATHE NEW LIFE into it. How exactly, I have no idea. But I was re-reading the archives on Gen's suggestion and of course laughed fit to kill myself - but point being, we dedicated quite a bit of time to debating Racial Harmony Day 2003. Does anyone remember Racial Harmony Day 2004? Here's a hint:

There. Now laugh at your former selves.
