Thank you, S'pore homies! :)))
Note to Gen - I bought the Alice album today, re-listened and decided I don't really like it as much as I said I did, but I am most fickle person alive, so.
It is going to rain again. Because of that, hot-air balloon ride plans for Family Weekend have been cancelled, wings are clipped. I went to CultureFest today and now I want to learn Arab line-dancing!

October = Halloween!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These times... I am sometimes a little behind them. It is unfortunate, but it is so.

You speak truths, October is most definitely the best month of them all.

HAHA why chunchun don't know what's ":))))))))" I think the last time someone asked me that was you know, in 1999. It's a smiley whose um happiness is amplified by the number of )s it has. And danke, October is mightiest month of them all, is it not?

sorry i forgot to identify meself! yes, it's jie qi thanks lams!
on the note of double degree... is it definitely increasingly easy to do one at nus - by the time you guys matriculate they would've come up with more double deg combis right? at the same time... is double degree really that impt? see right, by the time the guys or even the girls graduate, double deg holders are gonna be dime in the dozen!

I genuinely never heard it frequently until I enlisted... and anyway I put it there not as some display of big shot or whatever but honestly as a translation. I didn't expect you not to know it, by the way. Man, they just have to be right, it doesn't pay to be kind. =(

And what is ":))))))"?

Oh, and happy birthday to Angeline. =)

Please, Chun Wee, I am sure ALL OF US know what "kena tekan" means, even Ponce!! IT IS COMMON SINGAPOREAN LINGO one hears frequently, don't think you go army know a lot of dialect/Malay phrases then become big shot ah :))))

Anyway, the post below Chun Wee's was by Jie Qi! She forgot to identify herself!!

Also, it is now MUCH EASIER to do a double degree programme in NUS, you know? And you are all so smart, confirm can do double degree easily one lah. It's clearly mentioned in the 2005/06 NUS FASS Handbook. So, yup, don't think go SMU only then can do double degree ok.

Also, planning your own timetable is super great! And you have like AMAZING flexibility in NUS, unlike SMU..

Hey everybody, remember Harold Pinter? Well, he just went and became a fackin' Nobel laureate.

Anyway, remembering other people's birthdays is not an easy thing to do; I'm never sure what day exactly Zihao turns x years old and I haven't been for a while.

Oh no, why am I the only confirmed FASS inmate? After kena tekan by all the girls, who as they have never hesitated to remind me, will be in a position of power when I enter as a poor little freshman (kena tekan = rough description of the popular university practice known as "ragging").

But for now, it is the weekend again and that is good.

ahh, hello one and all! well if lams didn't tell me during ps tutorial about this heated debate going on abt the merits of nus/smu/ntu i sure wouldn't have known!

chun chun - happy be-very-lated birthday, many many apologies for this, that after how many years of knowing you your birthday slips my mind! but, better late than never, yes?

justin- OF COURSE you'd make a great PE teacgeer, you're about as athlete as i'm not, you see? :) anyway, join the gang, teaching can be very fulfilling, and it'd be great to see ya in FASS! now i'm not saying this because i'm a potential teacher-to-be or whatever..but the perks ofthe moe scholarship are POW WOW (esp monetarily yes?) so dajie, go for it!

All those who are still contemplating life and deliberating between the esteemed institutions of education ie roger elgin justin: NUS NUS NUS NUS NUS NUS.. it's not patriotic fervour, it's practical :) food - good! esp arts canteen, economical and palatable.. many other canteens that serve good food too like biz (justin the western food is yummmmmy). hall life, coming from me, is fun. definitely. you get to socialise and meet new folks, and most impt it's pretty darn convenient - the only thing bad is the food.at least eusoff hall's food leaves a lot to be desired most of the time! i hear temasek's food is much better. i think hall is a good experience for anyone, even better if you're independent and like to do all sorts of things at unearthly hours (legitimate, of course, minds stop wondering!) like jog basketball meetings sing dance in the rain. BUT it requires supreme time management skills else i assure you your grades will plummet!

sigh. long post.term essays to do. gals we gotta buck up. in hall now waiting for inter hall games try outs - which begin an 8pm and end at 10pm- that's hall life for you.

hey guys can you all pls go here and sign my petition. its for mass com project haha its lame i know but my group is doing something to create awareness on eating sharks fin soup so that less sharks will be killed around the world. pls sign yeah its a online thing. thanks!!!!

Shut up lah Chun Chun you CHEE KO PEK :((

Now on to more important news, everyone please forget all the negative things I have said about NUS thus far, because I think that YOU SHOULD ALL COME TO NUS FASS!!!!! (I mean those who haven't decided yet, and if going overseas is not an option.) It will be like JC again! See right, when you go to NUS, you will have to start making new friends - you will rarely ever find the chance to socialize with your friends from other faculties - and, while it's impt to make new friends, it's also damn lame and boring, plus a lot of the people here are pooey. In fact, you will be greatly in want of familiar company, and instructions on how to go to canteen etc, and who better to look to than your JC classmates that are already in NUS FASS?? That way you will be one of the freshmen who look cool because first day of school you already got a bunch of people to talk cock and eat lunch with. I mean, how is that not a great thing??

So far the tally:
NUS FASS - Jie Qi, Sona, Yi San, Genevieve, Cherylene, Angeline
Future NUS FASS - Chun Wee, Justin (IF HE TAKES UP MOE SCHOLARSHIP), Roger (?), etc.

HAHAHA poor lams

I remember he once made a post. I think he looks in from time to time.

Yi San, don't say you're not auntie because everyone knows you are. If there's one person I have to picture haggling over the price of towgay at the wet market, it's you. You would fit perfectly into the landscape of Ginza Plaza.

Also, free Internet access is just about the best thing ever.

Sean applied for SPH too.
(I am answering for him because it's not like he actually checks this blog right)

are you a little tipsy???

Hi guys did anyone else apply for the SPH scholarshi or am I the only one who has fantASSies of meeting the New Paper weather girl...

Yah, NUS also far from everywhere else, nearest shopping mall is GINZA PLAZA heheheh eeeeeee :(((
P.S. Not that I go to Ginza Plaza, of course, only the aunties go :))) And I am not auntie :)))

lammie how dare u change the template that i picked out last time??aniway it is dumb that my school is so far from civilization and i get so much free time. if my school were in town and i had this much free time i would prob be in town shopping and human socializing, rather then staying in my room and watching vcds and *gasp* reading my notes. bleargh..

eeeeeeee, Hitler was a lousy orator!!!!!!! No confidence, ugly moustache, grumpy face :(

Yes, Hong Xiuquan believed he was the younger brother of Jesus Christ. I guess enough people believed that he was too to make it history's bloodiest ever civil war.

Bah, so he could talk. Didn't save him from being shot multiple times and strung up from a meathook in public. At least good old Guevara went down fighting. If oratorically-gifted dictators turn you on, at least have better taste and go for Hitler.

Chun Chun don't make me slap you ah. Can you deliver an oratorical speech like Mussolini or not? Huh? HUH? Can or not? Mussolini kicks Guevara's moustached-ass any day!!!!!!!

YUCKS lams, the History we're learning now RULES can, it's WAY more interesting! Boo you.

And damn you too, I haven't even looked at essay questions.

hmm I assume the Taiping Rebellion won't be covered, unless we go deeper into the Qing period (unlikely), cos technically we're over and done with that. The rebellion was about dude who thought he was son of God right hehehehehe

Guevara was the very personification of the word "revolutionary". Mussolini? Ok... but I think the only thing good he ever did was make the trains run on time (historical inside joke hehe).

Not to mention his end was really pathetic. I just don't know what you see in that man.

But anyway, that is some seriously interesting stuff you are studying. I always did think that time period ought to be taught in schools, because there honestly are few events quite as significant in modern Asian history as the Meiji Restoration.

Plus all that late Qing stuff. Sounds very good indeed. China's modernisation after the Opium Wars? More like the lack of it. Is the Taiping Rebellion covered?

Ok Jusse, before I went to NUS, I also thought that the idea of being in the USP was quite appealing, but actually it has even less prestige (AND value) than, say, being in a JC's Humanities programme. Really! You just end up studying more! Go and read Qiyan's gf's site (cushla-inc.blogspot.com), she also complains about it. Plus, the most important thing is that it DOES NOT GIVE YOU ANY MONETARY REWARD!!!! Wah lao so cheapskate right! The only "perk" is that you have priority to stay in the PGP hostel, but knowing you, right, Jusse, if you decide to stay in the uni's hostel, you will DEFINITELY want to stay in a "normal" hall like Eusoff, Temasek etc, where there's a lot of interaction and games etc, perfect for a person like you. A person like you would feel greatly isolated and hermit-ted if you stay in PGP (and it's not like USP pays for you to stay in PGP, and, what's more, it's the most expensive of all other hostels.)

However, I guess the USP is also not that bad, if you are a more ambitious person than me - i.e. you value being able to study a wider range of subjects and fields, you like interacting with more smarter people, you appreciate the extra knowledge, etc.

Hmm I think that SMU may REALLY be more stressful than NUS (arts, at least)! I everyday so slack whereas my sis (in SMU) everyday come home like want to die, quit school etc lidat. They also have very fun and original CCAs!

Btw Justin if you take up the MOE scholarship you'd most likely study in the arts fac, right? Well you could major in something like Econs what! You like econs, right? And yes Jusse of course WE ALL can imagine you being a PE teacher lah! DUHHHHHHHHHH :)))))))

Chun Chun you are outdated already lah. Che Guevara is no longer in vogue. You know which character in history is in vogue now? MUSSOLINI, that's who!!!!!!!!!

S.Ning, I realize that the only kind of history I like is SEA History and stuff on the Cold War, hahaha, all the stuff we learnt in JC!!! I have NO INTEREST in learning all the shit I'm learning now, like um Industrial Revolution, Meiji Restoration, Indian mutiny, YUCKS YUCKS, none of these interest me, they are all so irrelevant. In fact I am going to do an essay on China's modernisation (after the Opium War etc) so any help from anyone who wants to offer it would be muchly appreciated.

Off to change the layout again, to achieve HAPPY MEDIUM! (or maybe not)

Actually, I was thinking more of Cherylene's... uh, wrist accessory. The one with several Che faces. But your shirt looks nice too. Hasta la victoria siempre.

Why do I have a funny feeling that when Chun Wee said something along the lines of a lot of us "fancying" ye olde Che Guevara, he was mainly referring to me?? And just because I own one of the ubiquitous shirts! Well I'll have you know I am writing LATIN AMERICAN HISTORY ESSAY NOW, meaning I am staying up until 5am weeknights, reading irrelevant articles about the low level of public hygiene leading to children peeing on the streets, and referring to seven or so densely-written books in the process to prove that I read them all, all for the sake of understanding that troubled region.
(Faux indignation is the most enjoyable emotion in the world.)
I am not overly fond of the new template because orange and blue do not go together in the least.
Justin, you are not going to smoke your way through PE teaching for school fees because when it all boils down I know you are more altruistic than you aren't. Agreed? My sister is in SMU Business and she is dying but that's because being unable to prioritize is a family trait. She likes the people there though. And I think you do gain a lot of practical skills because of presentations, no more of, for example, that shit about pottery from the Tang Dynasty (think Sec. 1 history).
There is this girl on my floor who sings in American Idol manner that is MOST ANNOYING WAY OF SINGING EVER, i.e. the SHOUTING & TRILLING kind. In the halls, in the shower - it haunts me.
I have not started my essay yet. HOW

Jusse, why are you talking like we are all dying and never to see each other again? Also, is it even a question, if you look like PE teacher, that's like asking lammie if she likes to talk.

Speaking of whom, since when did you become NUS #1 fan!!?? But okay, I heart NUS too, kind of, especially since I don't need to go school on Monday and alternate Thursdays.

Hah, chunchun you know why I remember your birthday?? Cos of your birthday keychain, THAT'S why! Ooh and hoho I know Che died on 9 Oct, because it coincides with my brother's birthday haha!

Okay, the end.

ahh... i haf not posted here for so long...anyways the new template is very pleasantly shrouded with bright happy colours...got my thumbs up

anyways, yisan, is applying for the university scholars programme really that bad? or rather getting it? i was intending to get it but actually im still deciding between nus biz and ntu accountancy but if i apply for moe, lord knows what they want me to study manz..since i intend to be a PE teacher if i ever get a scholarship with them..i think thats something i can do well as a JOB and interest...what do u all think? do i look like a pe teacher?haha or just goof ball trying to smoke his way thru just for cash to c me thru uni? if i do go to nus biz, i want the uni scholars prog but if they want me to study stuff that are like UNREAL TO EARTH...then i prob will think twice...

yah i heard nus food is quite good but i hafen heard anything about ntu..probably too far away to have any advanced technology to inform civilisation about their food sources...is SMU really that good? the rj pple over there ( those whom i know) told me that the place is good, environment rather different from conventional forms of uni ed ( no surprises there) and the pple are quite alrite too..but only thing its kinda stressful but then again, which uni provides non stressful education? if there is, that doesnt belong to singapore man...

anyways chun wee i apologize for not wishing you on ur bday as I had a terrible turn out on that morning at 2 and it lasted for 4 hours..so the whole day i was like a full fledged zombie from hell..nonetheless..despite the bondage-like treatment u received, im sure u appreciate the fact that they actually made it a pt to remember it :)

anyhow..i miss all of u..i guess i will always do since ao1c is such an impt part of my life..thanks..

for being who u are

Wow, a new design... which looks better than the old one. I find the star especially irresistible.

Whoops, Yi San, most of your advice is too late for me. That's just so sad, I think I'll be crying myself to sleep tonight.

I also think I've experienced most of the stupid shit guys pull on each other (cake + face, getting dunked etc) and I can say I most definitely would not enjoy having kinky things done to me involving strawberries and cream. Because kinky is one thing, and the clean-up being a bitch quite another.

I'll end off with some Today in History here: it was on this day in 1967 that Che Guevara was captured by Bolivian soldiers. He was executed the next day. I think a lot of you fancy him so that is something to note down.

Omg, I never realized this till yesterday:

Willy Wonka = Willy Wanker??????

Hotel 81 rhymes with "Don't tell anyone"

HAHAHAHAH

By the way, posting in this blog is actually very easy and convenient, you don't have to go to blogger.com and log in from there. Just click "BlogThis!" which is at the top of this page.
In case anyone doesn't know this

However NUS is not without its merits lah. For instance, the entire volume of DAVID JOEL'S STEINBERG southeast asia book is ONLINE!!! In the NUS digital library!!!!!!!! To think how we suffered trying to be the first to get the book in the rjc library, and how we further suffered lugging it home!!!!

Also, the canteen food is decidedly better than rjc canteen food. Also, it is much more affordable. A plate of char kway teow is $1.80, and it is EDIBLE, in fact.

Also, being able to plan your own timetable is damn fun. I don't have school on Monday (therefore, no more 'Monday blues' for me), and my Friday lessons end early, and are very short. So in general life is quite shiok.

And don't apply to the University Scholars' Program, (assuming any of you are still considering it) : first, you have to take retarded modules (well..I don't really know what they are, but I think they are retarded anyway), you don't get to fraternize with the general populace of the Arts faculty, and life in general sucks.

However, of course, one positive thing to look forward to if you go to NUS Arts is the presence of my company!!!!!!!!! :))))))))))))))

I would also like to announce that if any of you guys are still deciding between NUS or, say, SMU, well, go NUS if you want to feel like the smartest person around, and want to be the only one who talks in tutorials. In that case, then, be prepared to find people with similar interests like yourself few and far in between. Especially people like Roger, if you go to NUS, prepare to have a fate like that of Hsien Looong's son (minus the bodyguard, that is.)

If you go SMU it will most probably be more stimulating, and you are more likely to find like-minded people who like to argue about inane things like you do, as there are many crazy RJC people there too. Okay, I'm done!

Don't bluff lah Chun Chun, I'm sure you secretly wish that people at camp had remembered your birthday and did kinky things to your unwilling self with strawberries and cream...

K, I hope Muggie has a good time in Brunei, hopefully he will come back announcing an engagement to the Sultan's daughter :)))))))

Friday, October 07, 2005

People... remember. Oooh.

Just kidding. Thanks for remembering. Was glad not many in camp did though, because the last guy whose birthday was widely remembered had some very kinky things involving strawberries and cream done to his unclothed and unwilling self.

Will show you lot the lovely book I got as a gift and tell you it was Zihao's idea the next time we meet up. And Zihao, you also owe me two facefuls of cake. I hope you die in Brunei.

But seriously, wish Zihao a safe trip, because he leaves for Brunei tommorrow morning.

Happy birthday, chunchun!!! hahaha!
