Wow! Roger sounds so .. MELLOW! OMG :|

Zihao in Guards... all the best to him, his soon-to-come bad experiences are going to make mine seem like a stroll in the park.

And that's a good piece of writing there, despite it's pretentiousness, which I did expect anyway.

Perhaps this will help you guys through tough times - intellectual bitching!
See you Sunday.

- s. ning

haha.. the 'outfield exercise' i had this week included:
strolling over to Lim Chu Kang Camp canteen and eating fried rice (which was served to us) (and at the remarkably reasonable price of $2), and two rounds of longan ching-chau (nice and cold) which i consumed in/around the rover. then we frolicked around/ chatted, since our callsign / station was being practically ignored most of the time by the others.

anyway, so it is confirmed that we'll meet at orchard mrt at 1200 hrs this sunday, 1st May 2005. (it'll really be a very meaningful class outing for me.. for certain reasons..)

oh, and, to those of you turning green with envy at my first paragraph, i should also include that, my next seven weeks will include both the swimming sessions which roger mentioned, and the outfield horrors chunwee and elgin lamented abt...

in short the quasi-vacation at signal institute is almost over

I return with yet more horror stories... if you really think it's nicer to be running around in green, I invite you to give it a shot :)

To sum things up, I strained my back and then went an entire night without sleep, watching my coursemates deploy the radar system over and over again the whole night long and suffering as usual from heat rash, mosquitoes and abrasions as I sat in the safety rover.

Good to have a long weekend at last, and see all of you on Sunday.

muahahahah i am booked out from camp for a long break!!!! while the others suffer still till the weekend haha... oh and zihao if you read this pls return me my great gatsby and heart of darkness on 1st may...

well the getting flashed bit has been taken care of already, sadly. and of course sning knows it was just you i was interested in insulting, rather than the actual lack of knowledge of cpk's location;)

Ponce: OH HO! S.Ning asked where CPK was! So you're calling her a hermit is it??? I hope you GET FLASHED for being so rude HOHOHOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Wednesday, April 27, 2005

no jie qi doesn't! instead she gets stressed out by visa payments and has ongoing feuds with american express. see guys, maybe running around in the army is better. hoho.

btw lams, cpk is in forum, hermit.

-gen

S.Ning: Ah! The post below mine wasn't posted by me! I think it was Jie Qi's post?? The World Gourmet Summit sounds interesting, if anything, because of Anthony Bourdain's presence..... I hope QiQi took a lot of photos with him or something, or stole a lock of his (grey) hair, or some stupid shit like that :)))

To recap the email convo for those who are unsure, class lunch on Sunday, 1 May, at (at present) California Pizza Kitchen, meeting at Orchard MRT at 12 noon. BTW sorry to be blur but where exactly is CPK, as in which building, etc.
Why was World Gourmet Summit so horrendous Yi San?

- s. ning

Sean says:

helloooooo....
i finally decided to post something, lest i be accused of sinking under everyone's radar i know i haven't been very visible. well the horror stories of NS just keeps coming, makes me glad i'm a girl! while the guys have been disfigured by mosquitoes and other tekong beasts, i've been drowning in the WORLD GOURMET SUMMIT. now folks, bear that nane in mind, because the next time someone asks you to volunteer for this event/do part time work, please, i beg of you, DO NOT AGREE. else you'll end up like me, lost in the arabian sea and tossed by the waves of Anthony Bourdain. and if you think i get to taste posh nosh and wine... hell no.

ah yes, i feel better now :) i've gotta go do the law thing.... looking forward to the class gathering! cheerio!

And I have just returned from guard duty, with more mosquito bites than you. A heavy downpour yesterday afternoon was the cue for swarms of bloodsucking hellspawn to rise from the abundant greenery of Khatib Camp and descend upon my unprotected lower arms in an unprovoked feeding frenzy. Being a sentry, I was a sitting duck target of vast magnitude. The first wave came at my 6-8pm shift last night. I sustained no fewer than 18 bites on both arms, and at one time there were four(!) of the infernal beasts buzzing around me.

I survived that - to face worse this morning. The unrelenting assault made me feel as if I was being eaten alive. I was only too glad to leave my post at 8am and let the next mosquito bait take over. I think I have something like 30 bites on two arms now. Augh.

Saturday, April 16, 2005

hello world. i have just returned home from another week at SISPEC.

as i type this, i am glancing occasionally at this enormous blister at the side of my big toe. its huge, its puffy, and its certainly painful. as i type this, i am also observing my hands, which somehow don't really look like my hands to me anymore. i have approximately 20 mosquito bites on each hand and there are cuts all over my hands, and i look like i have leprosy.

these injuries were sustained during my navigation exercise, which lasted for three days. I have slept an average of four hours each day for the past week, and during my waking hours i walk about pulau tekong with a map on one hand and a compass on the other, while carrying about 10 kg worth of weight. it certainly doesnt help that we were not allowed to walk on roads, and hence we had to walk through jungle terrain.

oh did i mention that i will have even more adventures in the tekong jungle next week? wtf baby, wtf.

incidentally, 'extras' can also just land at your feet for the mere reason of your index number being strategically placed in front part of the name list. and it can happen consecutively too. never has the phrase 'nothing is for sure' been hammered in more.

in other news, my training course is ending in two weeks 4 days time; it would be nice if i end up as a signaller in one of (the other ns pple in the class)'s units/schools... :)

Yes, yes, speaking of extras, I have guard duty tommorrow and FUCKING CONFINEMENT NEXT WEEK BECAUSE I FUCKING UNACCOUNTABLY FORGOT TO SQUEEZE THE GODDAMN TRIGGER WHEN SENDING ARMS WHICH IS SOMETHING I'VE DONE ABOUT HUNDRED THOUSAND TIMES OH WHAT THE HELL

I asked for a spanner in the works and man did I get one. Now I know what means the saying "Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it".

Sunday, April 10, 2005

Most of us are going to book in to camp in about a few hours' time... the worst thing is when you book in, you really dunno when you can book out again, beacuse, especially at SISPEC and OCS, it is very easy to get extras. for the unacquainted, extra mean doing guard duty in camp during the weekend, which is the book out time. Hence i am being assailed by an overwhelming sense of dread now. till then, goodbye

Eek, fun? I have exams, like, weekly. And one tommorrow, first thing in the morning. In keeping with the practice of the past few score years, I haven't studied one bit. But I suppose it could be worse.

May Day is fine for me, although 30th April I've got something else on (no guard duty for us that weekend, thankfully). More opinions from the rest? Let's prove we can do something without Justin's organisational genius.

Nice picture, looks like you guys were having fun while the rest of us were sweating it out in green.

a gathering sounds good chun wee! suddenly i have the strangest yearning to wear the rj uniform again. am i crazy?(yes). not that that's of any relevance here. ok in the spirit of trying to keep this blog alive, here's a photo of the class dinner on monday aka The Last Time We Will See Justin With Hair:

how 'bout may day.. (or is the correct term 'labour day'?). anyway, i was intrigued last weekend by justin's msn display pic. the one abt a cup-shaped egg .. an egg-shaped cup with milk poured inside and then chocolates dumped inside. an insidiously simple yet brilliante / unique idea that no one thought of for a long time.. (just like combining mythical characters all together in one comic series)

Considering the female half has more time to post here (seven days a week compared to just five evenings and two whole days for the luckiest of us, and mere weekends for the vast majority), I'll say I'm mystified as well.

Good luck to Justin, he's gone for two weeks. How about a gathering when he gets back? I'll be the most pious I've ever been in seeking to avoid guard duty, which I know there will be on that weekend.

Opinions?

alrite every1 take care!!! im off to tekong!! ahaha...c u all soon! -justin-

Monday, April 04, 2005

My guess is that the girls have decided to take a backseat and hence allowed the army dudes to TAKE OVER THE BLOG! Which is not the end of the world, but let's try to strike a balance, shall we?
For some reason Blogger on this computer is in Chinese language mode. I get through only because I remember the exact position of all the relevant buttons.
If any of the guys are applying to US unis, prepare for supreme stupidity. My U of Virginia letter got to me a month late because the Office of Admissions decided to mail it via Malaysia. And Northwestern seems to think I applied to enter the Class of 2009. That would make me 14 years old.
See you tonight.

HA HA HA! Sean, you crack me up. I'm sure we're all happy and dandy so it's alll coool :))))))
-mamaleng

p/s: why is this becoming 1ao1c03NSNSNSNSNSNS.blogspot.com???? :(((

haha.. elgin, welcome to the club of (weekend duty) -pple. (though 12 hrs out of a 24-hr-bookout period is more precious than 12 hrs out of a 48-hr bookout). pray that u dun get consecutive weekends...

I had a 20% chance (they needed 2 out of 10 men) of guard duty this weekend, but avoided it. Phew.

My turn will come though.

Hello sean here how's everyone? erm don't really know what to say... SAF sucks yah. Wonder where and which courses everyone applied too... cheers stay happy - sean

talking about book outs. i have COS duty on sunday. which means. i have. to. book. in. on. sunday. morning. WTF.

Counting down eh Justin? I know the feeling. But when you have to go, you just have to go.

"Government never ask you to come here. Nobody ask you to come here. When you are 18, it is your duty to defend your country." -BMTC School 2 RSM, a week or so after we were enlisted (exact quote, thus explaining the ungrammatical nature)

Don't worry, you will survive it. If the other eight of us could, you definitely will. And it'll be past so fast you'll be rubbing your eyes in disbelief and wondering where the heck all those weeks went. Because I currently am still.

Remember - live for the bookouts.

5 more days to enlistment... i dunnoe to be sad or happy... i suppose im having mixed feelings now... freedom lost..missing loved ones and frens on one hand..on the other.. being able to save money, not needing to put a strain on my family's finances as well as being paid just to work out..haha..sounds good but of cos the regimental system and total loss of freedom is probably gonna be quite overwhelming..so im going there with an open mind...

Pre enlistment feelings aside, I have resigned from my job and right now am bumming around the realms of freedom..savouring every moment of it! haha.. can be quite cool to stay home especially when the weather is all so cool and slp inducing..ponce will understand since she has had the longest experience in bumming around since A LEVELS!!! PONCE if ur reading this, im anticipating a strong and powerful defence for urself..haha...

other than that, looking forward to mondae when i can u all again..well not all but almost half ya!

-justin-

happy (day after april fooles') everyone.. i would have liked to post a reply on the sunday 6 days ago, but i only discovered the amazing revival of our class blog in the half hour b4 i set off to book-in.

what i remember from racial harmony day was our numerous attempts (with a fair success rate) of up-skirting mark..

mona singing the Godfather wasn't really 'out of nowhere' - someone mentioned 'The Godfather', and chunwee commented, 'the tune is very nice', and we all know what happened after that.

-----------

my greatest respect for the command school pple (i try to think of u all when i'm dozing off during 'communications systems engineering' and other lectures)...

my posting to signal institute has been basically a sort of warped return to school life, with 8- 10 hrs of sit-down-in-classrooms lessons and some practicals for me. abt 5 'exercises' - laying lines, operating radio sets, etc. similar to school, there are textbooks to mug, tests every week, plenty of lessons in comp labs with courseware programmes. the amusing thing is that, we are a bunch of mainly arts and biochem students thrown into the maelstrom of physics.

hence, for now, these six weeks (two of which have passed), all is rather nice and peachy

HA HA HA!!!!!!

Sorry, I'm just very amused by the whole Mona-being-kicked-to-YJ thing. I mean, was she really KICKED there, or did she merely get transferred? Because those are two completely different things. And I'm sorry for dredging up this issue AGAIN, but haiyah, what to do, some people (i.e. me) are just SLOWER, ok.

Anyway WOW that pic of us in our uniforms in J1 really makes me want to go back to being a J1 again :(((((((( (I mean, aside from the studying and all that)

P.S. By the way, Lumpus, I know you're a busy woman investing in stocks and shares and all that, but when you have the time, can you please update our blog's layout? The current one is so girly :((

April Fools' Day bookout... lucky they didn't try to play around with the timing.

Hope everyone had a fun day of fruitful work/voluntary unemployment/mandatory conscription.

Happy April Fool's!
